Something to watch it on? Sounds a great idea! I had some 20-something friends speechless when I put R4's national anthem closedown on my Bush SUG61. Very atmospheric. It was a low-key sort of party!

Re: TV to watch Queen's Christmas Speech on?
I wonder what HM herself watches them on (the ones she didn't do live).
I always imagined she must have a Dynatron with the Royal Warrant. Looks like it's been discussed before. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=109247

You've probably seen this photo before. The last Queen's speech on 405 lines in 1984 being received from the
Kirk o'Shotts transmitter on channel 3. Peter |

Hi Bob,
There's not much time prepare a TV set for the Queen's Speech on Christmas day. How about the rare 19" 405 line Philips TV which was the subject of a topic in 2014? The set never worked properly and was banished to the store room upstairs. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=67147 Or this monster? The 24" KB "Regina" PV100. The set which has the special custom made cabinet. https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=153424 DFWB. Last edited by FERNSEH; 15th Oct 2021 at 10:30 am. |

Re: TV to watch Queen's Christmas Speech on?
How about this one? A Kolster-Brandes 14" model LFT30. This set was collected three weeks ago from Mikey's event. A real challenge?
The cabinet sides have been attacked by woodworms and it might be the same for the cabinet base. But before any attempts to repair the cabinet let's find out first if the electronics are any good. DFWB. |

Hi.
You have to watch the Queen in glorious colour. Perhaps on a 405 line colour set. Any set prior to the Coronation should be excluded.

Re: TV to watch Queen's Christmas Speech on?
BTW, my receipt in case of woodworms' attack:
As long as the case has not disintegrated I take the set as it is to a sauna. 3 hrs in the sauna at 90°C right above the oven and all woodworms and their eggs loose functionality. Then (after your own recovery from the sauna) you can restore the case as usual, i.e. sanding, filler, varnish, etc. and you do not need further chemicals. So there is a good chance to finish this impressive set for the Queens' Christmas Speech! Regards, Joe |

Thank goodness for that. I can concentrate on reviving the Philips and finding out if the KB can be readied for the 25th of December. DFWB. |

Hi Peter, what could be better than the 24" KB "Regina" console? Yesterday, a special service table was made to permit easy and hopefully safe removal of the chassis from the cabinet. One of the first jobs to do is to refit the 6BW7 common IF amplifier pentode which is situated under the CRT cone. It's a chassis out task to replace this valve. Without doubt there will be a good number of waxie capacitors to replace. Note the the large CRT mounted on what is a 17" OV30 "New Queen" chassis. DFWB. |

Re: TV to watch Queen's Christmas Speech on?
Perhaps I should re construct the design I watched may years ago. A B&W tube with a rotating colour strip drum. In its day it was a far better quality colour picture than a 3 colour CRT. Now where did I put that Nipkow disc ?
