Default Smoothing on a Selenium rectifier?

I need to replace the smoothing capacitor on this valve amp, it is using an AEG selenium tube type rectifier ,and a 50/50uF capacitor. I was thinking about fitting a higher value capacitor, thoughts please.

Mick.

Default Re: Smoothing on a Selenium rectifier?

Shouldn't be any problems. Increasing smoothing is good news whatever. Increasing reservoir can increase peak currents, and prolong the switch-on surge. But selenium rectifiers are fairly tolerant of this. The up side, whichever you replace (or both) is that hum level will be less.
