Moving (induced) magnet, and an overall outer screening can. Reminds me of Pickering and Stanton, but there were also several like this out of Japan. Does the turntable give any clues?

what is the make of the pickup arm the headshell looks like an ADC
Your pickup is definitely not a Stanton or Pickering It looks like one of the general generic
Jape units For me I would tend to fit an Audio Technica there are many models available

Full cartridges aren't much more expensive than their styli, so if you change the full cartridge, then you know the styus fits.

Yes, the stantons and pickerings were quite a bit wider. This in the photo is narrow-bodied.

The AT cartridges have average output and compliance and should just work fine.

Done a bit of Googling and I think you may have an OEM Yamaha CG-6800 cartridge. There's also a Sanyo OEM version too it appears. They seem to be re-branded versions of the Audio Technica AT750.

An AT-95 would be the obvious choice as a replacement. I'll guess the arm as being a Linn LVV.... just based on what would have been available and recommended by hi fi dealers etc at the time the RD-80 was new and had a standard (SME type) removable headshell. ADC LMF-1 replacement headshell was a common "upgrade" at the time.

Thanks for the info , question ! how would you rate the deck /is it worth keeping I don't think it would be a lot of money , it came with a lot of six items for me to repair, his complaint was the deck keeps throwing the belt off ,the platter was riding high , when I turned the deck up side down a load of oil come out of the bearing , now the platter sit's down ok , is there a procedure for oiling these, Mick.

What model Ariston ? They were in my time high end along with the Linn Sondeck etc.
Well worth sorting ! Sounds like it has been over-oiled and may have been hydraulicly locked as regards to level
I sold a large no of these at the time RD11
