The DER "Come and Play" campaign appeared to encourage getting hands-on with the tech in the shop without obligation.

The Microsoft one "I'm a PC" where the people shown weren't in the police and some of their attempts at saying it sounded like something else.

'Micron may sound small but we all know it's much larger than an Atom', for the Micron microcomputer system.

Does anybody else remember what this advertised : 'Enough books are written about crime, this one prevents it'?

Ha. This is a fun thread.

Candy washing machines (late 80s) - "Can-dy can do, Can-dy can doooo!"

Peter Murphy in the Maxwell cassette ad - "Maxell- break the sound barrier"

Scotch video tape - The skeleton. The whole ****** song: "I'm going to tell you how its going to be,
With Scotches' lifetime guarantee,
Tape what you want both night and day,
Then re-record not fade away, re-record not fade away,re-record not fade away......"
ad nauseum lol.

"Pure, perfect sound, forever" - Philips ad for CDs in the early 80's which turned out to not be anything like as true as they would of liked to believe.

and a non electrical one that still stands out for me was "When grease beats the rest, the best keeps going" Fairy liquid washing liquid with Nanette Newman doing the ad in the early 80's. Anyone remember her?

I certainly don't, but I snapped this sign in Gibraltar, a place known for being in a time warp.
They dropped that wording when the trade description law came into force. If they had supplied 30 line output transformers with every set sold they might have got away with it! They changed it to: BUSH...for all seasons. John.

I do! And that reminds me of a Canon photocopier advert, featuring a hapless boffin and his co-workers.

The dialogue I recall: "Here's another one for you to check out...brains!"

The silly stuff really sticks. Alien robots having a laugh at Earthly culinary procedures..."For mash get Smaaaash." The four-note tune made someone a tidy sum.

The Philips 'Simply years ahead' campaign went astray. A member of the Philips family bought a racehorse. For marketing reasons, its name was changed to that slogan, and the poor neddy trailed in late in every race. It was the butt of many commentators' jokes on TV at the time. The horsey world thought it hilarious.

Based on my experience of a Philips car radio cassette the slogan should have been "Simply years behind".

Sanyo did a deal with Harvey Smith, and all his horses got re-named. This got their products names even on the BBC.

I remember 'Sanyo Cadnica' (Re-chargeable batteries), and who can forget 'Sanyo Mixmaster Rotary Blender'

However, it often caused the commentator (usually the renowned Dorian Williams) to announce something like "Sanyo Mixmaster Rotary Blender has four faults" and to dissolve in laughter.

I definitely think that full version of Ariston and on and on is the best.

Crikey, that reminds me of something:

When show jumping was popular on the TV a similar wangle was used and I remember horses called ‘Sanyo Music Centre’, and the like, after a stable of products (pun intended). I’m open to correction but I’m pretty sure it was Sanyo. This was back in the days of Harvey Smith and David Broome.

Edit: Looks like I was beaten to the punch.

"Mazda lamps stay brighter, longer -always ask for Mazda"

Their lamps maybe, but generally not their CRT's!

I was working on the bench one Saturday morning watching the horse racing, and the studio guest was Bing Crosby who was visiting London.
By chance, one of the runners was called Uncle Bing, and Crosby immediately instructed one of his entourage to put a bet on "to win".

Needless to say Uncle Bing romped home first, and his namesake donated his winnings to charity, It was a remarkable piece of live television that has always stayed with me.

Was it Granada that used the tag line "that clever Leopard's gone and changed it's spots?" Used to advertise that they now sold ex rental sets?

It seems there was this press campaign

https://twitter.com/russty_russ/stat...267520?lang=en

Followed by this TV ad

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WK41-ZL0lM

But I don't remember either, not even vaguely, which is odd, because I was working for GTVR at the time, and also often got involved in a small way with publicity launches, setting up video previews, that sort of thing.
I wonder if it was shown here in the North, on Granada TV?

There was another animated Granada Rentals advert that caused a bit of trouble with the brotherhood of the EEPTU union. It depicted animated TV repair technicians wearing informal attire, including polo-neck sweaters, this was at a time when we had a strict collar & tie dress code.
The management still argued the toss with us.

That was seriously corrupted! Please don't post the corrupted version. I'll leave it to your imagination!

Qualcast/Flymo. 'It's a lot less bovver than a hovver. J.

My dad used to say that slogan from time to time. It’s took all those years to work it out . Thanks John

Apple's Rip Mix Burn was one of my favourite slogans from the last couple of decades though the music industry would probably disagree.
