Default Replace internal plate aerial

The radio I have obtained has clearly been somewhere damp (and may have had a hard working life). It has an internal plate aerial which is a metal sheet attached to the cardboard backing board which, as per the attached photo, is in a bad way.

Is it possible to recreate these? Are they worth the hassle?

You could just glue on a sheet of heavyweight kitchen foil and then punch through the holes, but these sorts of aerials are pretty hopeless unless you're next door to the transmitter. Even a couple of yards of wire in the aerial socket will give better reception.

Those internal aerials were always pretty hopeless; if you really feel the need to recreate it you can get adhesive-backed aluminium 'flashing-tape' from DIY-shops, but to be honest I wouldn't bother - an internal aerial like that will only pick up near-field 'hash'. Fat better to forget about it and use a decent external antenna which can be sited away from noise sources.
