Default Wiring a new on/off volume control switch.

Hi again, I have to put a (new) on/off volume control in my Ekco U332. The back terminals 4 no are in different places than original one. Does it matter which ones I call in and which I call out. Two have 4 ohms resistance
and the other two have 0.3 ohms resistance in the on position with no wires with no wires attached. Am I making any sense. Thanks again Dick.

It doesn't matter which tags you call in and out. Contact resistance can vary as you've found, but a dose of mains will soon sort that out.

I don't think so. Just ensure that the switched neutral out goes to the chassis side of things.

The differing resistances are likely just variable contact resistance between the two poles. Unlikely to have any untoward effect when switching mains- quite likely after the initial few on/off cycles they'll both drop to a similar figure anyway.

Edit: SNAP! And more concise, too.....

The switches are very often marked with input/output or line/load connections. I can’t remember but there is a convention as to which the line/input connects to whether fixed or the moving contacts.
Check to see for indications on the switch.
