National Panasonic music centre.
Hi All, ive just bought a National Panasonic music centre, SG 2080L,
Although it has not been played for many years the record plays fine .the tape player although all features are working ie play ,ff, rew, stop,pause. But NO SOUND, any ideas. i have cleaned the heads but still nothing. |

Check:
- Wires unsoldered from head. - Dirty rec-pb slide switch. - Dirty function selector switch. - Missing voltage to preamp circuit, cracked solder, wire off, etc.

Expanding on what Ben said, select tape mode, put a blank / unimportant recordable cassette tape in, hold down the STOP button and, while holding that down, repeatedly press and release the RECORD button a good few dozen times. If it makes some horrible noises initially while you are doing that, that's a sure sign that the record-playback switch is very dirty inside.
If you are lucky, 'exercising' it will clean it up and it will eventually start working normally, but usually a record-playback switch in that condition needs to be cleaned properly. |
