Hi Dougie, The transformers should work, but watch out for the core temps, especially if running at 1 Tesla or so.
Most modern lams that I use are 0.35mm thick, hence lower losses

Thanks for the suggestions.
Also appreciated the suggestions for BT units and offers from other members but I am in Spain, so getting it here would likely be prohibitive; I also don't fancy carting a lump like that on a plane in my hand baggage!

Since the asking price of the one I pictured was quite high I have found one of very similar spec for half the price.

I'd be using it for audio, video and televisions (mostly under 24")

An informative and entertaining quest for isolation.

Hi guys,

Thanks Ben for this post: I myself have been seeking isolation too, but not at any price.

Techman, thanks ever so much for that pointer to BT MCUs; I would not otherwise have been aware of their existence. I looked at my wife with big, sad eyes and asked her how much my life was worth. I was (grudgingly?) granted sufficient budget. So I put a snipe on that very same BT unit and won it for £15 plus postage.

Thanks for the idea Mr Humphrys. That would get me a rolled up newspapaer and sent to the doghouse.
BUT I would be isolated, for a week at least. .

If you have a couple of similar LV transformers lying around the shop, you could make a poor man's isolation transformer by connecting them back to back.
