Hi David,

Yep that's the same head block as mine, the dual quarter track. Correct also with the common wires being the ywllow and white.

Right channel measures same as yours, about 3.45kOhm.
Left channel climbed to over 200MOhm... I think we have a winner!

Most likely is the head itself but of course could be a bad connection to/from the resistor.

Does yours have an intact foam gasket/seal at the bottom panel air intake that interfaces to the bottom of the motor.

On all my similar Uhers the foam gasket is always long gone, so wonder what it looks like.

Hi David,

It has definitey started to perish but it is still there, if I'm not mistaken it's actually cut to the shape of a square. If I get time tomorrow I'll open it up and snap a picture

Cheers

Hi David,

Picture attached so you can see what has survived in mine.

Also forgot to mention, in that pic you can see red plastic that appears melted and stuck to the case near the vent on the left. There's quite a bit of it littered around inside. At first I thought it was wire but it's set solid.

Thank you for the photo, I have seen the red stuff before in some of the Uher Royals, it has always mystified me what it is.

The issues here are Signal into the left line input, MONO I and II: both register on the VU, speaker playback audible, STEREO: channel 1 only.
Signal present regardless of which input is used.
I do not understand what the keyboard reference is ?

Glad to hear you found yours! I look forward to seeing the thread. I was very curious about the 560/561/562 differences. I assumed the numbers referred to mono/stereo options, but with the changeable head block that isn't the case. The 560 has mic sockets on the left side and a different VU comapred to this one, but like I said, most of the info I found was in German so I didn't get far with it.
I see the SG 560 Royal Service Manual also covers the Royal de Luxe and Royal C de Luxe recorders, maybe implying that they all are very similar, I know the Royal and Royal C are basically the same (the C does not have the internal speakers) and look very similar to the SG 560.

Hi David, I was referring to a Yamaha keyboard. It has stereo line level phono out so I was using it as an audio source to test the line inputs.

Probably just minor differences between each one, likely the speakers as you say

I am probably being thick but still cannot really visualize this.

Is it a PC keyboard, where do the line signals come from, does the keyboard have line level phono inputs that connect to your Hi-Fi amp or can the keyboard generate audio signals ?

Ah that now makes sense, I have some music keyboards that I think have phono line outputs, will have to try this myself.

Sorry for the confusion David, I see what you mean now; yes a musical keyboard, one of the old 80s Yamaha Portasounds.

Not many had dedicated phono line outs but this one does, and given that the mic input on the 561 is another DIN that is expecting a stereo mic, it was the easiest solution for checking the input monitoring and recording.

At one stage thought it possibly was perished cable loom plastic tie string.
