Yes Tesla did have a number of strange quirks. Wardenclyffe would probably not have worked, and he spent a good chunk of his life trying to get funding for death rays and the like.
But Newton, once he had got Principia and Opticks out of his system, spent much of the rest of his long life perusing alchemy and trying to transmute elements.
Newton was so detested as a lecturer that no one came to his lectures. But he had to deliver them because his position at Cambridge required that he had to do so. So he would turn up to an empty classroom, deliver the lecture, and then leave.
