Your cartridge may well be the sanyo one that uses STG 5/6 - pic attached - looks quite BSR, in fact I once successfully 'filed down' a BSR ST17 to fit it! minimal work needed.

The 2601K came with a ceramic cartridge with the ST6D stylus. It looks like a magnetic type. Pic attached for those who aren't too familiar. The arm also looks like it has a counterweight but in reality it is just eye candy!

You are right about those idlers, a terrible design on Sanyo's part.

The G2611 looked almost identical, but seemd to have a slightly better arm/headshell, cue lever and magnetic cartridge.
