I'm still intrigued how a 1950s wall-mounted instrument from NZ ended up over here, being sold by a house clearance outlet on eBay.

Did it come from Cornwall? I brought quite a few back getting on for twenty years ago. I had a friend (into telephones' since we were at school together in the 1950's!) in Cornwall who sadly passed away about four years ago and his wife had a clearout to a Steve..... who had lots of his Strowger bits and pieces for sale on eBay. It may have come from him?
Yes, Steve in Redruth!
That's the guy!
Looks like one from one of the batches that I bought and shipped back to set the party line up and have a few spares. Attached is photo of one of the batches. In those days there were 4NZ$ to the £ compared with the 2NZ$ to the £ now. Average price of a good ivory Tele 332 in good 'nick' was less than £100 inc postage back to UK. Plus an exBT guy appeared in NZ selling and pushed the asking prices right up on 'Trade Me' - the NZ equivalent of eBay. Problem with Trade Me is that you have to live in NZ or Australia to register and bid. Useful that I administer CNet in NZ so am in contact with folk there!
