The couple I have tried (can`t remember the make) both went thick and difficult to apply quite quickly but warming the board with a heat gun improved things considerably. Useful in some cases for multi pin devices but on the whole, more trouble than it`s worth.
Practice does improve results greatly though.
On the whole I tend to use 0.46mm solder and a small tipped iron.
