I suppose if you get fed up listening to these, you could of course smoke them

Would they be extracting the michael with their choice of verb? Hand-rolled presumably.

"warm, and precise sound rolled into a Limited Edition Grado"

It's not April, I checked. So it must be money for old rope.

a Limited Edition
All my stuff is limited edition (at least the home made!) only one of each in existence, must be worth a fortune.

From

https://www.hegel.com/products/power/h20

"A practical benefit of the H20 FET-technology is a more rhythmic sound. It is simply better at re-creating a bass line. Another vital element is the removal of harmonic echoes in the higher frequencies, which result in a lot more detail and still a smoother and more natural sound."

Umm....

Notice also the incomplete spec (a common thing with consumer audio gear)

Distortion is quoted at a power level, but not at what frequency; or is it less than the figure at all audio frequencies? Who can say.

Intermodulation - what power level was it measured at?

Damping factor of 1000 (no frequency spec; it always falls with frequency as a result of the Zobel inductor). "Amongst the highest damping factor in the industry, and full control of the loudspeakers. All this to give you the most natural, rhythmic and dynamic sound on the market today.". Totally irrelevant spec. The damping factor is determined by the loudspeaker drive unit impedance.

It costs £4k for this, by the way. At least it looks good.

Ah - at least there is some technology behind it. Feedforward, but part analogue and part in a digital processing system.

Just in time for Christmas, the perfect present for your audiophool friend or relative:-

https://rowlandearthing.co.uk/

"Many are unaware that the Earth’s surface is covered by a blanket of electrons, which may act as one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. Every time we come into contact with the Earth’s surface, we are able to absorb these electrons through our skin through a process called grounding, or Earthing."

I didn't have the nerve to click the Learn More > button or maybe I just have a positive disposition?! ;D

I was 21 years old when I first took a flight in an aeroplane, and one of the exciting things about it was that it struck me that this was the first time I had been out of contact with the ground, for more than the 1/2s or so I might manage by energetically leaping into the air (I was 21, remember). These days I don't even fly very often - I think I am considerably more grounded.

I suppose it's less messy than sleeping in a casket of specially imported earth from Transylvania... although modern advances in onesie technology could help here.

I thought that the really serious guys already had earth wires with croc clips to connect onto their tinfoil hats while they were sleeping.

If you persist in wearing your tinfoil hat in bed at night as I do then there could be a real danger of creating a ground loop with your Rowland Earthing sheet with an annoying 50Hz hum! ;D

Ah, Clinton Ober. Author of 'Earthing- The most important health discovery ever?'

Err. Penicillium? Dialysis? etc etc

He experienced enlightenment very suddenly one morning in 1993 (remind you of anyone?) I have to say the product prices are not as high as i was bracing myself for, though.

What happens when there is a lightning strike nearby that induces a multi-kV spike on the building ground?

I like these at £200 a time:

Optional Rounded 2.4 Kg Heavy Weight Anti-Magnetic & Shock Absorbing Mass Damper to Sit on Top of Equipment

One suspects that a couple of bags of sugar would be as effective.

Well, the third of a ton Air Force Zero turntable is POA. The one down from that, the Air Force One is £139k, and rumours are that the Air Force Zero is > quarter of a million. To which you have to add an arm and cartridge. Or two arms and cartridges.

Wonder what happens if you stump up for one of those and it sounds bad?

How could it possibly sound bad at that price?:)

When I looked at the Absolut Sounds price list my first thought was that the number quoted was the part number. Then I thought that the price came from a random number generator which had been added to the salesman's birth date.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.

But even if you stump up the best part of a million quid for a system, there'll be a new catalogue out next year full of stuff that's even more absolute and you'll have to start all over again.

It's just jewellery and art. The people who buy it derive their pleasure from looking at it and knowing it's mine, all mine... and the bragging rights as well. 99% of the joy must come from knowing almost no-one else can afford it.

You can always upstage these people "Well, I don't own any of that equipment, but I do own a brain capable of designing better.. and you can't buy one of those!" Always take the high ground, and hit 'em with superiority, full in their faces.

David
