Resistor info please.
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
My N1700 repair saga continues and I'm looking for info on a particular resistor please. I'm rubbish at remembering the values by the colour bands and if it's 1/2w, 1w etc etc. The resistor in question is the lighter coloured one in the picture. It looks as if it's Brown, Green, Green, Gold. I'm thinking it's a 1.5Mohm, but can someone please confirm before I try to search for one for sale please? Many thanks for your patience with my maybe obvious question. Haha. Regards Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
Why do you want to replace it? Have you tried testing it? The top solder joint doesn't look too good either,

Re: Resistor info please.
I want to buy some more of the same value. This 'ugly' solder joint is on a modification to make the N1700 play and record at half speed. I want to do this modification to my other working N1700 as it plays back certain tapes better than the machine with the modification. It will save me swapping over the modification from machine to machine to get the best results.
Cheers, Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
It is 1.5M.5%

Re: Resistor info please.
1.5 megohm 5% looks like about a quarter watt one
The other fellow is 620k and looks like 2% Higher value carbon film parts do tend to age upwards, but nothing like carbon composition do. Metal film resistors are probably the most stable over time. David |
Re: Resistor info please.
Thank you for the replies! Marvellous.
I'll have a look online for a few to order. Cheers, Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
I can't seem to find any of these resistors for sale online. Would anyone have a few they could sell to me please?

Re: Resistor info please.
Hi Rich
These should do you. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-x-Meta...-uI-LQohBmRn5A They are 1% but that's no bad thing These are 2% I doubt that they are 10W https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-P...IAAOSwPHxbI9lG Look good :) Cheers Mike T |
Re: Resistor info please.
Hi Mike,
Thank you! I tried looking them up on Ebay but couldn't find the exact value. I'm tempted to get the ones in the second link, only because they're age appropriate to my n1700. I'm guessing they'll be ok regardless of the 10w rating? Many thanks again, Mike. Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
I think they are more likely 0.5W ot 1W and the 10W is just part of the numbering.
10W are going to be wirewound. After all spot where it says they are 1.5M Ohm  Cheers Mike T |
Re: Resistor info please.
Lovely, thanks.
I've just ordered them. Hopefully they'll do the job perfectly. Thanks again, Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
My go-to place for resistors is Cricklewood Electronics, for future reference. They don't (much like other places) do much in the way of carbon composition, but carbon film and metal film - yes! Their prices are good and shipping is pretty fast. I have no connection other than a satisfied customer. Here are the carbon film 1M5:

Thanks, Colin.
I'll put them in my bookmarks. Cheers, Rich. |
Re: Resistor info please.
Another heads up for Cricklewood. Fast, efficient and sell 'proper' components!
