Installing an old printer.

I'm trying but so far unsuccessfully to install a HP deskjet 460 printer on my windows 10 laptop.
This is a lovely compact printer and I even have the original driver installation disc.
My laptop does see that drivers have been installed but the printer won't work.
There are quite a few drivers available on the internet and I've tried most of them.
I think this printer is about 15 years old.
Is there any thing else I can do?

W10 does have a compatibility mode which I've had to use on several occasions, it works quite well I'm glad to say!

Have a read through this link & see how you get on?

I have a HP designjet 430 which will not work with windows 10 64 bit no matter what I do but will work fine on windows 10 32 bit and this may well be the same problem.

I haven't used W10 yet but on XP and W8 you sometimes had to specify which USB port was to be used in order to use older printers.

Thanks for all your help.
We managed to get drivers installed but printer wouldn`t print because ink cartridges needed changing ( 2 leds lit ).
Also could not get inks to stop in the right place so they could be replaced so assumed printer has a fault so decided to call it a day and admit defeat.
I never got as far as finding if ink is available but all ways thought cartridge world would refill the old ones.

I have vague recollections of having a similar problem in the dim and distant past with a printer whose ink cartridges travel across the page as it prints. If I remember correctly, I resorted to brute-force-and-ignorance by physically holding the cartridges in an accessible position while I cut the power. Not an ideal solution, but my recollection is that it worked!

Re: Installing an old printer.

For my Epson 740 printer, to change a cartridge you could either use a menu option on the PC, or simply hold in the "clean" button on the printer for 3 seconds.

The Epson has only just been retired: it has developed a fault which results in the carriage not returning home properly after a pass, resulting in gibberish. A shame as it was excellent and could take paper of user-defined sizes.
