I wonder if they go with the Black Diamond crystals? |
Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I'm seriously considering one of those anti-static/magnetic optimiser jobbies from the previous threads.
They'd be great on my daughters birthday balloons, no more hair standing on end and the sheer openness, definition and to say nothing of the clarity of the 'pop' at the end of the party ;D Would I use this device on my CD's/DVD's or vinyl? Only when I run out of anti-static foaming cleanser and I misplace my degauss wand ... ;) Mark |

I browse through the XKCD set of cartoons now and then and came across this

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Just seen this on EBay Vintage 60's Telefunken solid core radio/audio wire Amazing sound ! from Switzerland ,I thought they would have known better . Mick.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Telefunken probably just made a well-engineered product, choosing a suitable gauge for the voltages and currents to be carried. Solid core is cheaper if it doesn't need to flex in a permanent installation. The 'Amazing Sound" bull came along later. AEG-Telefunken seems to have been adopted with open arms by the golden eared fraternity and seemingly the company could do no wrong though they seem to forget the company were the maker of the fuhrer's favourite tape recorders.
I'm always amazed at the feats of hearing that allow the amazingness of sound to be clearly heard as due to a particular piece of wire and not, say, the left front foot of the amplifier. |
Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Somewhat OT for this thread, but has anyone heard of an FU32 valve?

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I think they have used them as they look pretty.
2 valves in one envelope parallelled giving 4 watts output, no doubt padded with resistors to headphone level. Yes overkill, but people will buy them. |
2.5k for a Wi-Fi speaker
A lot of money for a lot of speaker. Would you WANT 4500watts of leonard cohen or black sabbath blasting at ya??

Watt (pun intended) a load of old bulls testicles.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
To be fair on Devialet they have thrown a very great deal of proper engineering at the problem of trying to get two moving diaphragms to recreate the sound field of live music. This is not string and sealing wax. I have heard these speakers at shows more than once and they do do rather a creditable job. Of course, given what they cost you would hope they would. But it's possible to spend a great deal more money on much less capable equipment.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Calibrated crystals eh? 'Shielded' by a brass cup, addressing the negative effects of EMI & RFI? Mmmm, clever.
A calibrated crystal placed in each corner of the room would presumably make my AM sets useable again?, or, if the crystals are very efficient, block out what's left on the AM band rendering the radios display only items? How often do those crystals need recalibrating anyway? No seriously, you have to ask these questions. Mark |
Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
The crystals will maintain their calibration almost indefinitely unless an event disturbs thair calibration, such as an unbeliever entering the room, or any form of measurement being performed within a half-mile radius of them.
Should this happen, gather the crystals on a table at the centre of your room, align any major facet with your nearest Ley-line and strike each crystal smartly with a rubber mallet. They are now calibrated once more, but for best permanence, they should, one at a time, be immersed in liquid nitrogen to fix their polarisation. Mark the facet which was used for alignment so that it can be oriented towards the listening position. Correct calibration can be determined by listening to the musique concrete section of 'Here come the fleas' on the 'Electric Storm' album by the white noise. Failure to get more than an amazing amount of soundstaging will indicate your calibration is off. If so, repeat the process but try a different ley-line. David |

Wouldnt "The Visitation" be a better track David ?
