I cannot imagine that they built a copy of a RAP 846 when they could probably pick one up for £50.

Especially since it has the 4 wrong knobs.

Surely if they were going to make something it would be more visual than the RAP

If it was something made up it was pretty impressive copy of a reasonably complicated case.

Maybe it was just a case that they acquired and retro-fitted some sort of electronics/visuals to>?

Watching reruns of Benny Hill on Freeview (for the artistic content);D, I spotted a 26" Swedish Luxor Hybrid, the model number being a far distant memory.
Quite a unusual beast, I think.

German WWII wireless station. This appears in the excellent Russian series 'Attackers'. Possibly not pc at the moment, but imho some of their tv productions are outstanding. They lack the sensationalism and rapid scene changes of many contemporary films. Star Media on Youtube. There are also frequent shots of Soviet radio operators.

I have noticed that the 1970'S Grundig YB 210 radio is still making an occasional appearance on Doc Martin.
Tonight is the last ever episode and last chance to see it, well apart from reruns and for the few of us that can still get ITV Hub.

My wifes nephew was one of the actors in Doc Martin a few episodes back, he called in to see us in between shoots, the scenes he was in down here weren't done in Port Isaac, but in Newquay, with the other scenes being done in London, I'll ask him if he remembers the radio if I can.

Anyone see the Channel 4 show The Horne Section on Thursday? There was a Strad 553W radio in one of the places that the show was filmed in.

That's a good spot! I saw just three large white controls in the background and thought it looked like a vintage radio, but not enough time or detail to make any guess at the make or model. I saw the 'Horne Section' live at Harpenden Public Halls - an entertaining, yet chaotic night compared to the usual calm of the BVWS Swapmeets held there!

Hi. That sounded to be a good night out. I tried to contact the Horne Section by email and Facebook to inform them about the show and the vintage radio used in the sketch, but no reply!

Can anyone identify the tape-recorder shown below?

It's in an episode from Series 4 of The Avengers, the person just to the right is the late great Diana Rigg....

Yes the piano-key type push-buttons visible do really suggest Philips, see the similar one on Radiomuseum here: https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_el3515el_351.html

Just on the edge of our interests -I hope the Mods allow a mention.

Organ Stops: Saving the King of Instruments

BBC4 Christmas Eve at 21:10

A documentary about enthusiasts saving and re-homing pipe organs. "Churches....and venues" is mentioned in one TV listing, so not sure if there'll be any mention of Cinema Organs.

Commentary by Huw Edwards, who does play the organ - I never knew that!

I think there is a definate overlap as somebody who has single handed saved a not inconsiderable pipe organ from being lost for ever this year.......

I have just watched 'Sahara' which I recorded earlier in the year. at the start there is a scene where the radio op of the tank is trying to contact base.
See pic. I am sure you can see why he might be having a problem getting through on the 19 set.

The current ITVX drama 'A Spy Among Friends' has quite a bit of period tech that's pretty accurate to my eye.

Regarding tape recorders, the 1962 setting has a practical Nagra 3 used extensively by an actor (Anna Maxwell-Martin) who clearly knows how to drive one. There's also a Brenell Mk V (I think), again practical, and a Ferrograph YA on the window sill. In an earlier time frame there's a Pye Black Box record player that I suspect is also correct to period.

The radio monitoring equipment I can't comment on, I'm afraid - not my area!
