Survey of TV22 ownership

I thought it would be interesting to see how many receivers from the popular TV22 'family' are out there, so I've placed a poll.

This poll covers sets with the iconic bakelite moulded case (only), and so, as I understand it, should include:

TV12
TVF12A
TV12A
TV12B
TV12M
TV12AM

TV22 Mk I
TV22 Mk II
TV22P
TV22U
TV22A

Please supply what details you like about your own set(s) here, and then fill in the poll!

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Freya,

Thanks for then alerting me by PM that a TV11A doesn't have a bakelite cabinet. :-)

Hi Steve,

This should be interesting! I now have 3 TV22’s, all MkI as far as I can tell, they all use EF91’s in the RF deck. I also have a TV12, can’t remember if it’s an A or a B, I’ll check tonight. I can also get the serial numbers too if interested? And approximate dates from the caps.

Regards
Lloyd

All work? Sorry, that must be a silly question. All your sets work, don't they John. :laugh2:

Re: Survey of TV22 ownership

I came across a TV22 at auction a few months ago. Apart from a cursory look inside to check that it's all there, it's been put away for now due to other commitments.

This might sound silly, but how do identify whether it's a mk I or II? From the serial number? :-[

Thanks AG. There are a lot more! 8-o
Yes Steve,
99% do work OK especially the mains EHT derived models... John.

Basically, the TV22 Mk I has seven-pin B7G IF valves on the (lower) RF deck and the TV22 Mk II has the fatter nine-pin B9A valves.

The TV22A is rather like a 'Mk III' and is different also on the upper deck with a changed LOPT etc.

There are more detailed clues on the chassis labelling too.

As far as I know that's a sufficient guide: 83/ for the Mk1, 124/ for the Mk2 (which my remaining set is).

Re: Survey of TV22 ownership

The TV22A also has a small bowler hat on the back. It differs considerably from the Mk1 & 2. Just a thought Steve but it might be interesting to add the whole family, the TV32 and the TV62. J.

That would be interesting! Would a mod be able to add the entries to the poll?

Two TV22, MK2’s here.

One fitted with the Bush Band 3 converter on the back.

The poll only allows me to vote for the MK2 once though.

Cheers. SimonT.

Sorry about this. In such cases, mention this here and I'll take this into account when summarizing the figures at the end.

At the end, it might be interesting to see the numbers sold to compare against the numbers preserved.

Yes, I still have trouble getting accustomed to the number of TV22s around because for a long time the model was one I admired but never saw in the flesh. I frequented auctions whenever I could from 1968, but always here in North Norfolk, and even then pre-ITV sets were extremely few and far between because lack of transmitter coverage had prevented them being sold here in the first place. So I've a TV62, which I bought for 15/- in about 1970 from the back room of a long vanished dealer not a hundred yards from our present home: but I never saw a TV22 until the early '80s, and first had a chance to buy one in 1990. Oh, and we've a cream Retrovisor too...
