Ekco A182
 

Hello

I have recently purchased an Ekco A182. The cabinet is sound but the finish is in poor condition and four of its five knobs are missing.

On the plus side, all of the valves are there and the massive wave change mechanism rotates and seems OK.

I searched the Vintage Radio Service Data site and the WEB but could not find any reference to this model.

Does anyone have access to the schematic or any service information and know if the original knobs are available?

It might be one that was made and distributed only down there. In which case, Paul probably won't have it.

What are the valves in it. Maybe we can find it's closest English cousin?

Hello Steve

The valves in the radio are:-
EL42 x 2, ECC83 X 2, EZ80, EBF80, EB91, EF41, ECH42 and EF41.

If the A182 was not made for the UK domestic market then it may have been made for the European market as the Ekco brand is virtually unknown in Australia. It looks like a top end receiver that would have cost someone quite a bit. At some stage it must have been someone's pride and joy - I am guessing around the mid 1950s to mid 1960s.

I have added some pictures in the hope that someone can identify the unit.

I reckon there's one more valve hiding underneath that tuning dial - an EM8-something magic eye.

FM and push-pull output makes for a luxury set, that's for sure.

Quite right Chris. I think that it is a DM70 or DM71 but I am not ready to dismantle the unit at present.
