You shouldn't have any convergence issues with a 30AX. I'm sure I used to swap yokes around on these back in the day without encountering any problems.

I always found converging a delta gun CRT quite therapeutic and a real challenge to get it as best it could be. You really need to know when to stop though.

Didn't these tubes have a potmeter on a small print on the scan coils? I remember having trouble With dry joints on this print.

When you say the scan coils are smoking, are you getting a picture still?

no,managed to see picture just before it failed,and seemed to collapse into a vertical line down the center of screen,whilst coils smoking ,then no picture at all

Remove the scan coils and have a close look at the winding. See if you can see any evidence of burning. I can't remember if you can see the winding when the yoke is removed, can you believe that when I must have worked on hundreds of sets with this CRT.

It seems strange that the coils would just fail after fixing the original fault.

only seen a few in the past 8 years and struggling to remember my theory
