Re: Decca 101 restoration
Does anyone know exactly what these variable resistors are? I can't find them on the service sheet, however they seem to be in line with the scan coils...... It's unfortunatly another one with a broken track but I cant find its value either?

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Hi osx86apple,
They are labled R68 and R69 on trader sheet 984. They are picture shift controls, each 10ohms. Cheers Andy

Re: Decca 101 restoration
The variable shift resistors R68 and R69 have a centre tap so that a differential action is possible to move the picture from left to right and up and down from a centre position. The circuit for the Mk2 chassis fitted with electric picture shift controls can be found in one of the Malloy and Poole servicing books. I'll post up the circuit when I return to the shop later today.

Re: Decca 101 restoration
The attachment shows the position of the shift controls in the circuit.
Some information from my restoration of the electrically similar Defiant TR1250 might be useful: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...Defiant+TR1250 DFWB. |

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Thank you for the information, that's been really helpful. Any ideas on the best suitable replacement for these? I am trying to source some replacements for these now and the brightness and frame controls. The original sliding resistors are open circuit and damaged

Re: Decca 101 restoration
If the Decca has conventional shift magnets around the neck of the CRT then the shift controls can be removed and the chassis returned to the original Mark 1 specification. Alternatively, a replacement shift control can be made up. A 20ohm 3watt potentiometer is required along with two 10ohm 3watt wirewound resistors. The resistors are connected in series and wired across the outer tags of the 20ohm pot.
I'm considering fitting electric shift controls to my Beau Decca TV chassis. DFWB. |

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Thank you David/Andy for the information. The service data I've been running off seems to slightly differ hence I have been making a few puzzled faces recently when looking at it!

Re: Decca 101 restoration
From the Malloy and Poole Radio and Television servicing book: a list of modifications to the Plessey TV chassis including the introduction of rotary controls to replace the slider type.

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Thank you David, that's a great help. Think this will be the way forward until I can find some replacement sliding controls...

Re: Decca 101 restoration
News Flash! I've found a 10ohm picture shift potentiometer. Correct type for the Plessey chassis. The component was removed from a Decca D17 chassis, that's the chassis one would call the Plessey Mark 3.

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Anyone know of the best place to buy some potentiometers, that are reasonable and good quality?

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Thanks for your help, I am going to source and make up a control panel for the back, keeping it discrete in the cabinet
Until then, I have put it in the lounge to see how it will look. Fits in nicely |

The 101 looks great in that setting, I love the HMV radiogram and the period three piece suite

Re: Decca 101 restoration
Found this whilst browsing, it refers to the model as Decca "Console"
