Default King's speech unedited BBC recording. Value?

Hi.

I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction. I have a record of the King's speech, with a hand written label. It was recorded at the BBC and was the original so there's nothing been edited out.

How would I find out the value of this?

Can you be more specific please. What form does the recording take? Record, tape or wire?

I assume it's a Christmas broadcast, but what year?

I assumed he meant THE kings speech, as portrayed in the eponymous film

So did I initially, but the film wasn't made by the BBC.

Record = vinyl or shellac. I presume it is a disc sound recording, not a film.

Hi everyone,
Yes, it's the abdication speech on a vinyl disc, with a hand written label.
My grandfather knew the guy who worked at the BBC , he gave to my grandfather as payment for a job, so it's now been handed down to me.
It was recorded on to the vinyl and I'm guessing the edited versions were taken from this recording.
Thanks

I would contact one of the museums in London first to see if it is of any interest (probably British Museum first).

Ask if they can point you to someone or institution that can help you.

Vinyl ? Surely, if it's an original it would more likely be a Shellac 78rpm unless it's a later re-record?

I agree, but sometimes people refer to any record disc as "vinyl". They don't know about Shellac. I'm not saying that that is the case here, but it could be.

It's more likely to be a direct-cut acetate. A photo would help...

I will sort it out and take a photo in a couple days
I have been trying on and off for a couple years to get some idea of the value , but I've always referred to it as vinyl when I've emailed ppl , but now after googling what shellac is I'm pretty sure it's shellac , it's rigid unlike vinyl which is a little bendy
Thanks for your input everyone

Yes - shellac 78's will break if you look at them the wrong way. Please treat it as if it were made of thin glass. If it breaks it will be absolutely worthless.

If this is a rare recording it would be good to upload it to archive.org to preserve it for the future. I have no idea of value though.

It could be a transcription copy sent to Australia for broadcast there.

Also, if it's a direct-cut acetate as TK suspects, then I believe it will be damaged if you attempt to play it on "normal" equipment.

So yes, let's have a photo please.

I use to live in the UK and emigrated to Australia, so brought it with me.

I've never tried to play it in case I damage it
