Default Technics RS-B40 - starts recording when powered on

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help here. My old RS-B40 cassette player has recently started to go into recording mode when powered on. If a blank tape is left in the deck it will start to record at the point it was stopped (normally the tape will be at the end of it's run or I will have taken it out at the end of play - but on the occasion I've stopped it mid way through it will start recording over the content when powered up again). Any help would be much appreciated

Many thanks,
Steve

Check the timer start switch - usually a three position switch labelled rec/off/play or something similar. Make sure it is in the off position. Then check its contacts.
