ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
Hello everyone,
It is less than two weeks now until the BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett meeting and Auction on Sunday 2nd of July. Mike is busy sorting the stuff for auction and the process of lotting, photographing and listing has begun. The table bookings are coming in fast so if you want to book a table then get in touch with him asap! (You’ll find his number/new email in the Bulletin) It’s a big auction with 300 lots. A little birdie tells me there’s a piece of very early television receiving apparatus, think 30 lines and you won’t be far wrong!! The Bring & Buy tables for the benefit of the museum will be there as usual. The BVWS stall will be there stocked with high voltage electrolytic and polyester capacitors of all the types we need and use for vintage radio & TV and audio. It's going to be another bumper day so mark it in your diary now. Doors open at 9:30am for STALLHOLDERS GENERAL OPENING for everyone is 10:00am Auction start at approx. 12:30pm The Kitchen will be in full swing with plenty of hot and cold food throughout the day. See: http://www.bvws.org.uk/events/locations.php for location Visitors are welcome to make a sample visit, although you'll need to be a member to get a bidding number (so why not take the plunge and join on the day?) Debit/credit cards accepted for membership and auction purchases. See you all there,

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
Yes Greg The 30 Line item you mention is a Baird Televisor complete with a unit to drive it and program material on audio cassettes. It comes with original large plate Neon lamp.
I would like the time to get it running for the event, but that is not likely to happen although it has been working and demonstrated in the past at some events. The Auction catalogue and pictures will be available on the BVWS website (free of charge to download) this coming Sunday. There is a number of ex-BBC microphones and equipment as well as many of the classic vintage radios we all love, especially of the round variety. There is also a good selection of 1920's radios and crystal sets and lots of valves. Mike...

The photos and catalogue are now on the BVWS website HERE. The catalogue is also attached to this post.
The Baird Televisor is lot 270, and is shown in detail in the first 10 photographs. |

Hmm... the catalogue does not open except to a black page. I have tried saving it on my desktop and opening there with the same result.

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
It works fine for me in Adobe Reader and Foxit.
See this thread https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=137622 for discussion about a similar issue with PDFs on Windows 10. |

Despite my problems it seems if clicking on "open With" and selecting firefox the pdf's can be read.
I think an update this week altered things.

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
A few more photos were added yesterday and this morning, but that should be it now. No changes to the catalogue.
If anyone wants to leave proxy bids or discuss any of the lots please contact Mike Barker directly. His contact details are on page 3 (bottom right corner) of the latest Bulletin. Please do as as soon as possible as he is likely to be busier later in the week. |

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
Hi,
Great stuff, looking forward to it…. As part of my larger radio clear out and adopting a one in and one out policy I’m thinking of putting a Grundig 3028, Grundig 4097 Stereo and HMV 1121 into the auction on the day if its ok?, but I’m really mindful of overloading the auction though! As far as I can remember the Grundig 3028 and HMV 1121 are both working – but consider them both as in need of some fettling. The Grundig 4097 needs some TLC though. Terry. |

Hi Terry
If for any reason you are not able to enter into Auction you can always put them on the bring and buy. Cheers Mike T

Hi sorry I was just wondering if you give estimates beforehand for the auction?

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
Hello Edd,
The answer to your question is no. Most auction estimates given by the auction houses are unrealistic anyway as they are biased to a low lever to entice people to come with the expectation of getting a bargain. Reality is such that the item will fetch the price the highest bidder is willing to pay on the day. That price might be wildly different to the same item being sold somewhere else on the very next day. I suggest that you have a look at the results section of the BVWS auctions pages on www.bvws.org.uk You can type in any search string and get the results of all sales that meet the search criteria for the last fifteen (or more) years of BVWS auctions. For instance put in DAC and you will get the results of all Bush DAC type radios. Just put in Bush or Ekco or Murphy and you will again get the sales results for all radios by those manufacturers. This is a FREE service that is used by many collectors wishing to sell items and have no idea what they should expect to get for them. Mike...

Re: ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT SUN 2nd JULY!
If you are particularly interested in a TV161U with the 640 chassis fitted, a word of caution. This 'GU' version is fitted with the earlier IF chassis with high level contrast controls, no black level clamp.
I think the G stands for Germanium transistors in the IF panel. The external appearance is identical to the TV161U. John. |
