'Switch Type 78A 24V' ?
A friend has this device, I wonder if anyone can identify it?
It is marked 'Switch Type 78A 24V', with a War Dept property mark. I'll try and add pictures, but they were sent on Twitter and im not very good with it!

Seems it was part of Rebecca/Eureka homing system - see http://spitfirespares.co.uk/radio.html

Thats exactly it!
My friend is sending me 'mystery item' pics on twitter of things as he clears out his uncles estate. By this, and some other items so far found, there could be some very interesting stuff amongst it all! Cheers

Don't do that - it might be the emergency self-destruct control

To be pedantic it is part of Rebecca, which is an airborne transmitter/receiver which enables an aircraft to determine the distance to a portable Eureka transmitter/receiver beacon on the ground, and to home onto it.
