Default Repairing tape.

I recently bought some Scotch reel to reel tapes. For their age I'm well chuffed. However, one of the leaders has parted with the tape. Which adhesive is best to join them again. For all my years in the trade it has never happened. I am wary of damaging the heads. Thank you.

If you are desperate you can use Scotch Magic Tape, which doesn't degrade or leak adhesive like normal sellotape. Proper splicing tape is vastly preferable though.

You can of course use tape without leaders and trailers.

Ta Paul, I'll look for some, I'm a tad obstinate about old gear. Failing getting correct splicing tape I will look out for "magical scotch tape" and thanks for prompt reply.

This is the stuff I mean: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotch-810-...V449AGWP7P1KFH

To repeat though, I would only use this to splice tape in an emergency.

Thanks for that, I take risks, go out alone at night, take drunks on, dodge cars when inebriated, but risk my gear, NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Canford and ebay are where I usually buy splicing tape. I am still using a roll I picked up about a decade ago! And that's after doing hundreds of splices.

I've found that the adhesive on old rolls of splicing tape can loose their adhesiveness to the point of being almost useless. I think it varies a lot depending on manufacturer and pure luck.

The adhesive tape that came with a BIB cassette repair kit I bought more than 20 years ago still works OK.
