Murphy A72 page
My radio page is up, complete with downloadable instruction manual, A72 and A80 (remote and push button) service instructions, guarantee, sales leaflets, valve data charts, 'keep it going' book from WWII, etc. plus a video of the A72 in bits and putting it together again, etc.

Re: Murphy A72 page
A nice story Simon, enjoyed looking at the webpage and video.
My Dad bought me my first valve set, a massive Murphy TA92 around the same time and that is still with me now. I added to my small collection with Scouts' jumble sale purchases in the early 80s. I can remember the prices for two 1960's sets here; a Philips B2G81U for 20p and a Cossor CR1101U for 60p (it had VHF!). I think you got a lot more radio for your money! Regards, SR |

Re: Murphy A72 page
Hello
What a lovely idea to have that website. I have a friend who has several late 30's and early 40's murphys who I will point out your website to. I used to listen to Jackie on sundays around the same time when I lived in surrey. I live in Welwyn garden city now near Hydeway where Murphys used to have their factory and my mum used to work for them winding coils and soldering chassis during the war. Thanks again. Peter. |

Re: Murphy A72 page
Hi Simon, I have 2 of these sets, both now working. One of them even had a recast speaker ring, made from Mazak at the local school!

Re: Murphy A72 page
Nice site Simon!
I've got a couple of A72's on the 'to do' pile, with the intention of making one good one from the two them. Seeing your site is helping to remind me that I must get on with them.....

Re: Murphy A72 page
Great to see another Murphy fan onboard, I have one of these fine sets in my collection. I really enjoyed the read up, these radios must have been very striking in their day, nothing remotely like them was for sale at the time.
Just noticed on your youtube video you've used my transfer of "Yours Sincerely" by Connecticut Collegians, I'm honored!
