Default Tellux TLP5

Hi all,

I'm after a bit of info, i recently picked this Tellux TLP5 from a car boot sale along with a Decca TP85 Radio (which i have a few questions about too but will post in correct forum)

From what i have found out the Tellux is that its not the best made player in the world but it seemed a bargain at the time.

I have ordered a new stylus and on powering up (after changing the plug which had an old 3 pin plug attached) the deck spins and the speaker crackles in to life. the problem i have is that the stop/start control is stuck on start and i can't find a way of taking the deck out of the casing?

The only way to access any of the components is via the single screw shown in the picture, is there a way i can get the deck out so i can have a look to see why the switch is sticking?

Thanks in advance

Unplug it remove that screw, the panel, can now be removed, you need to get your fingers under the deck and feel for a metal clip, move it downwards and the deck will release.
That is a BSR turntable, with age the grease they used on assembly dries up, making the deck slow or as you have found the switches stick.

The metal clips you need to release are at the same positions as the two screws you can see on the deck plate.

You may find that if you can only reach the right hand clip, the deck will slide out sideways, as the hole for the left hand one has a slot cut into the motor board. Took me ages before I figured that one out!

I had one of these a few years ago briefly. As you say, they are not hugely rewarding but the amps seem to be reliable (if not the best). Main problem will almost certainly be hardened grease in the TT mechanics. I am assuming it's solid state? Mine was and it looked the same. Problem there is - these new fangled transistor things don't warm and soften the grease in the way a good old valve amp does! A hair dryer, judiciously applied, will help to loosen things up and establish that the deck is rescueable - then look at the detailed 'stickies' for how to do it properly.

Thanks for all your help, iv managed to take the turntable out of the unit.

I'm not very technically minded so may need a few pointers, the long piece of black plastic in pic 1 is the switch that is stuck on Start, where about's do i need to grease to get it moving again?

I have also been searching for a manual but cant seem to find one for this model.

It's not MORE grease you need - it's LESS! These things get stored in attics and garages for years on end and the grease they came with solidifies in the cold. Try running a hair dryer over it, as I suggested. The heat should soften the old grease and (hopefully) release its grip. Check the 'stickies' at the top of the page for more comprehensive descriptions of how to proceed.

You are unlikely to find a manual for the Tellux player per se, but you might be able to search out one for the BSR C154 autochanger.

Just a quick update,

Got a new stylus for it and it fired in to life

Not too sure but by the sound the speed might not be up to full speed I have tried to add a small video but the site wouldn't allow it.

These rarely run slow. I suggest you download a "Turntable Speed Stroboscope" and print it out. Try it on your player and see how it measures.
