Default JRC NRD-525 Comms Receiver.

I hope this is vintage enough ! My uncle has given me this set as he is now very infirm, but I know little about it beyond what I can find on the web. It seems JRC are no longer in that business. I have not attempted to switch on yet (but it is supposedly working). Any advice/information gratefully received.

I'm listening to one of these at this very moment. Mine has the optional VHF/UHF and narrow bandwidth CW filter add ons.

I assume you've managed to download the user and service manuals?

When you turn it on set the PBS control in the centre position and the P LEVEL control to OFF. Otherwise you'll wonder why the audio is distorted.

Anything you want to know, just ask.

To all intents a first class set and always sought after. Expensive when new.

Not that cheap second hand either when I bought mine 26 years ago!

Back in the day, the NRD525 was a very highly sought after receiver. It should still be very good.

According to Wikipedia JVC merged with Kenwood in 2008 to create JVC Kenwood Holdings, but they are still in business.

BTW very, very nice bit of kit.

You're confusing JVC with JRC (Japan Radio Company).

Ken
I'll email the service manual to your forum email address now. It may be a day or two before I can send you the user manual, as it's spread over several jpeg files.

Its me that's doing the confusing, I misread the thread title as Jvc nrd-535.

Sorry

JRC is still in business, see:

http://www.jrc.co.jp/eng/

but it gave up the amateur radio sector some time back, see:

http://www.jrc.co.jp/eng/about/news/2012/0613.html

JRC Amateur Radio Support Termination.pdf

The NRD-525 was produced from 1985 December through 1990 November, so I think it qualifies as vintage for the purposes of this forum.

Mine I bought new way back in 1989 October - I just checked and it certainly was beaucoup bucks at the time!

Cheers,

The displays on the NRD-525 (and NRD-535) have a reputation for dimming and failing with age. See Dave Zantow's, N9EWO, comments at:
http://webpages.charter.net/n9ewo2/list.html

Use it and enjoy it.

I must be lucky then. I bought mine second hand 26 years ago and it's in daily use. No sign of the display dimming yet.
