Default Spotted in Charity shop: Marconi C10A

Spotted for sale in an animal charity shop in Rugeley, Staffs, a Marconi C10A corner set on cabriole legs. It's quite small, kind of just above the knee, mid-thigh height. I didn't ask any questions, I know nothing about its working status etc. They're asking £40, but I'm sure they'd take an offer.

Contact seller directly if you're interested:

I'd quite happily give £40 for that as it's for an animal charity. Pity I'm not closer.....

I never haggle with a charity shop. To me, it's like stealing from the needy.

I never use my credit card at my favorite charity shop! I usually buy low priced items there.
As I understand, they have to pay a percentage to the CC firm.

I always haggle at a charity shop - not that I've bought anything from one for a while. The exception would be when perhaps looking through the vinyl 45s and picking out several to buy, I wouldn't bother to haggle in that instance. The unit shown looks to be very unusual and attractive - AM radio only, of course.

I have always paid with hard cash in such places.

The corner cabinet designs never seemed too common! The speaker(s) must be mounted on the rear panels. The styling is a little too formal!

I have a table type radio from the '20s, a bit earlier than that one I think, and the speaker is underneath.

I love that sort of thing! It is two wonderful things for the price of one! Good job for my state of clutterness I live too far away.

That wouldn't work well as it's intended to be used in a corner of the room, so the speaker fires downwards - there's a photo of the interior at

As is so often the case, it's having my legs as my only form of transport that spares me pondering a purchase.

Shame we aren't planning to be headed your way this year. We were there this time last year.

Despite being a standard 4+R superhet, it seems to be in beautiful condition, and the corner cabinet design is very unusual. I'd pay £40 for it if I lived nearby, but then I'd have to find a spare corner to put it in (though it would function as a corner table).

Dave, British radio buyers in the 40s and 50s liked their sets to look like items of furniture, and some people do find them overly sombre today.

Well worth £40 in that condition.

Yes, I live in Rugeley and I visit the store most days, and as Duncan says, it's gone. I too hope that it has gone to a good home. Maybe there'll be a first post from someone soon about a Marconi C10A..
