Hi.

A very unusual looking set and quite an interesting photo. I can't say that I've ever seen anything like it. It does have a BRC flavour about it though. The radio with the 4 knobs arranged in that square pattern was typical of Marconi or HMV radios of the period. The appearance of TV itself certainly has a '3000' look about it though I can't see a push button UHF tuner on the control panel.

If these sets existed I bet they'd have been 'loved' by the trade. Shades of the combined Amstrad TV, record deck, cassette deck and tuner about. Perhaps that's where Amstrad got the idea from to build their contraption some 10 years later!

Regards
Symon.

Was it the April issue of the catalogue? Even I wouldn't make something like that, and I have been known to produce some weird and wonderful contraptions in the past.

Thinking practically, the turntable, at least, would require a dust cover, and there's no sign of anything to locate one.

No retainers on the tape reels also by the look of it. Could be messy on FF or REW if the flew off.

There's no date on it. Just issue 1 Part 2, 1972.

I think it's fairly safe to say that someone on the forum would have met one of these beasts over the years if it did actually exist. Just put it down to being the Unicorn of the Radio and TV world! A mystical creature indeed. Perhaps the original unit made for the photo (if it really did exist) is still waiting to be discovered in a shop attic store room somewhere.

The comparative sizes of everything are wrong. It's a 'just for fun' art studio mockup to make the cover of the magazine eye-catching.
