All World two!
hi.
Well what a radio to build. I got there in the end and it was well worth it. It is not a radio I would recommend though. Every part is/was hard to get hold off. I re built it four times. I fell into the trap with metric / imperial . I had hols all over the place. Anyway it finished. Thank you all for the help you gave. pete G4MRU Last edited by peter.sables; 21st Jan 2017 at 1:29 pm. |

Well Pete, it was well worth it, you have done a superb job.
The satisfaction of overcoming adversity is richer than the simple solution. Can we have a comprehensive write up on the forum please? Stuck out here with little to read! |

Looks good, can't wait for the reception reports. When I built my first one valve regen (about 1970) I was amazed by the performance. Mind you broadcast shortwave was very much alive then. I did listen to lots of 80m SSB stuff to, I cringe thinking how much I radiated!

Re: All World two!
Valves, that part is simple.
SP2 and PEN 220. That was the first problem. the valve base for the SP2. The next problem was the base to the coil !!! Only it was not a valve base.! pete |

Re: All World two!
Hi
I'm not sure how to do this. This radio is OK but I think its over rated. It needs testing proper and I do not have the skill to do it. I've had another go with the coil. Make it, try it. Think I'll put some starter photos, make as you will. pete |

Re: All World two!
I'll make a starts.
the first stumbling block is the is cast box. If you get it from Maplin it will be in metric. So take account of that as you drill. The front is 210 x 180mm You will need a good slow motion drive. Decide which version you are going to build. Mine is battery. That helps no end with noise. Now go after the valves then you will then need the bases. Now the coil former ! You will need a socket for it. So go after it. The most difficult thing to sort out is the notched capacitor. You will have to fashion it ! Get as many notches as you can. more the better. Have this lot in your build box before STARTING ... Pete |

Nice work, Peter. I admire your determination and ingenuity - attributes I value highly and which make this interest really come to life!
Kudos to you. Are you using just a long-wire or ATU/s? Are you DX-ing? Where's the furthest you've pulled in so far?

Re: All World two!
hi
Well at this time i'm using a long wire and an ATU. It was so hard getting the parts that I was starting to lose interest in it. I really do not think its as good as it says on the tin. The band spread is a pain, you tune all day and still do not know were you are. Pete |

Re: All World two!
One of the best regen receivers to build is a regenerodyne receiver, you can normally use an ordinary signal generator to set the band, you can use what ever detector tuning range that suits, from memory the one I built had a regen detector tuning range of 500kHz, that tuning range and its tuning rate will be constant on all bands selected, nice and easy to tune and a very good performer.
EDIT: If built proper then there will in effect be almost no pulling of the regen detector when tuning the RF or an antenna or advancing the regen control when resolving CW or SSB. Lawrence. Last edited by ms660; 11th Feb 2017 at 9:29 pm. |

Re: All World two!
Hi.
Yes it was good for SSB and CW. I think I was expecting more !. It was just strange tuning arraignment. Mind you I still need to tweak it pete |
