Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
Yes I think you are right, my mistake, there is another temperature adjustment knob near the top of the unit that presumably connects to an electrical thermostat. But everything is buried and it is difficult to make out the separate parts.
Before doing anything further I looked online for the relay, could not find any for sale. But there is available an electronic control board, no idea where this is located in my unit, as I haven't found it so far! The model is Hotpoint FF 175BP. Last edited by yesnaby; 15th Jan 2017 at 10:46 am. |

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
If the bulb is OK, then the light should come on whether or not the thermostat is working, after all in normal use the light works when the door is opened whether or not the compressor is running. The fault would appear to be between the mains lead and the point where the circuit for the light is separated from the compressor/ thermostat circuit. Is there a mains input filter, or a terminal block or PCB where the circuits are distributed from?. If you can, Identify the light wiring, and check between that and the mains lead.

The service manual is available for free download on Elektrotanya - at the following link (the site is no problem to use) - just wait for the text "This file is downloadable free of charge: Get Manual" to appear just below the preview box, and click to download.

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
Some wonderful English in there! Not Chinglish, but clearly not written by a native English speaker.
Looks like any motor control relay will be on the circuit board. It could be something solid state even.

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
You could just bodge it - wire the compressor directly to the mains supply, and regulate the on/off cycle with an external timer. This might actually work better than a thermostat in cold conditions, though you would need to monitor the temperature in both the fridge and freezer with fridge thermometers, particularly as weather conditions changed.

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
Have you examined the mains lead for rodent/pet damage, just a thought?

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
The utility room is well inside the house, so doesn't get that cold. No rodent or pet damage visible to the mains cable, and my stray cat Gypsy (who actually belongs next door) is still alive.
I'll investigate further but am not too hopeful of finding the fault. |

Re: Fridge/freezer dead?
This unit has now gone to recycling. I could not figure out how to get to the end of the mains lead inside the fridge freezer or how to access the compressor terminals, they are all sealed. Also, I never found the control board, it must be in a compartment inside the freezer part but that needs further dismantling to get at it.
