Hi Sam, you are right, I got the wrong part number.

The one for the ImageWriter 2 is A9G0331 or 942-0778-A - it looks like this:

We change islands in 3 days, next stop Cebu.
Search for MRF455 & 477 will continue, is one of these a bolt in winged transistor?
Ribbons search too will be recommenced.
Having no luck so far with numeric displays.
Any takers for STK modules before we leave the source?

Hi Sam

The MRF455 is a bolt in with 4 soldertabs in a cross pattern. Thanks for the continued search.

Regards

Graham

Hi. Update for ThreeSeven. So far not successful but there are lots of Coronamatic ribbons for sale in the US. I think most of them are one time film, the nylon ribbon seems to be part # C17657, this is the one that will re-ink, will carry on looking for this. I assume the film ones are not a lot of use, one time and then chuck.

ThreeSeven, your PM box is full!!!!

All the side loading ribbons for Smith Corona appear to be the same fit, just 2 types, one time film and nylon ribbon.

We are now in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, out tomorrow on the parts hunt around the city.

Any other things to try to find?

Let me know soon, we move again into the remote areas after TUESDAY. Will be back in Bacolod again before we leave for the UK.

Apple ImageWriter ribbons seem to be all gone, even Apple don't list them as a consumable anymore.

Graham yo have a PM reply.

The search for 7 seg display tubes is coming up with nothing, though I did find a guy today who knew what I was on about, that's a first!

One good shop I have used in the past appears to have gone in the last 9 months, sadly a common story these days.

Printer ribbon and typewriter ribbon searches are not good either, the consensus is that they are too old and were not common enough for there to be any lying around, but we shall try. If anyone else suggests scrapping and buying something up to date i.e. laser, I'll scream. Would it be possible to put a new ribbon in the old cassette, reels of ribbon still on ebay. Would not do the colour though.

Even inkjet is rapidly becoming old hat here.
I can understand it, you can buy a combi printer, scanner, fax for less than the cost of one ribbon for the Smith Corona typewriter, its a crazy world.

Heartbreakingly, I am still seeing piles of CRTs dumped in side streets, drains and fields, unbroken. No scrap value you see. Impossible to fly them back, not allowed.

Not been brilliantly successful, but, boy, did you set me some challenges!

Searches for parts will have to end at the end of this month as after that its lying on a beach time till we return to UK, but there is lots and lots of unprocessed silicon there!

Ready for sun and surf now, the cities are good fun but tiring, hot, busy, crazy traffic, lots of people.

So if there is anything else let me know soon.......................

Sam

Have a look for this part please, Tungsol part, #DT1705E, it's a Vacuum Fluorescent Display tube, 7 segment type. Five would be great, but at the right price I'd have 10!
I guess you may have gotten sorted for these by now, but if not, perhaps a similar russian tube could be persuaded in? the IV-12 is on a similar style base.

They're available from the usual ebay sites for pennies.

Spec's here ; http://tubes-store.com/product_info.php?products_id=32

Brilliant Dave, but I was looking closer to home! Or away, whichever.
What a grand forum this is with members like this.

Well, there you go. I'm in the wrong place, should have looked in Russia!
I'll PM threeseven in case he misses this post. Well done on finding that, I'm sure he will be grateful.

Absolutely no problem, glad to help! With any luck they will be a good match.

I've used them before, I paid under a tenner for 5 delivered to the UK, they replaced some identical but somewhat tired ones in a perspex clock I made from an old Russian one bought in a Job lot. Quality is variable but they usually work well, sometimes the electrode assembly inside may be a few degrees off rotation when viewed from above, but for the price you can't argue!

Dave.

Been a while and I've been busy. Did those displays match up to your originals, threeseven?
I noticed they were wire ended, not socketed.

Transistors packed away ready for transit in March, no customs duty problems!
I'll get them in the post soon as.
