Default 'Sonic' (not ultrasonic!) Cleaners (DIY)

The recent thread on an ultrasonic cleaner prompts me to mention the DIY cleaners - often mistakenly referred to as 'ultrasonc' - which use 'palm sanders' attached to a metal or plastic container. A palm sander runs at maybe 25,000 vibrations per minute, so that's about 400Hz - one hundredth of the frequency of an ultrasonic bath at 40kHz. Hence, they're 'sonic' rather than ultrasonic, as is abundantly evident the moment you switch a palm sander on! Whereas an ultrasonic cleaner works on the basis of 'cavitation' a cleaner powered by a palm sander can only achieve 'agitation'. Nevertheless, claims are made that they can be quite effective, though I make no such claims myself.

Here's one such example, incorrectly referred to as 'ultrasonic' by someone who knows no better:

There are similar examples along the same lines on youtube.
