Default First restoration project PYE T19RG

Hello everyone.
I'm now to the forum and recently purchased Pye T19D with record player Garrard RC65A. I'd like to restore the case and fix the radio itself. When I switched it on, the lights come up but only growing howling noise can be heard.
I probably should replace the wax capacitors, but any advice on how to troubleshoot/ fix will be appreciated.
Is there specific name for this radio case/set?
Thanks a lot

You appear to have a 19RG, which is the radiogram variant of the T19D table set.

Are you getting any output from the pick up head when switched to gram?

Thanks, I was suspecting 19RG but couldn't find the same to confirm.

The first thing that I would do is to set the voltage selector to the 235/250v tap assuming that you get that voltage where you are. Mick.

When switched to the record player, the platter turns but the same noise as when radio is on. No output from the needle, or when I try to tune the radio. I changed the voltage to 250 and it's the same.

You are going to need to take some voltage measurements starting with the power supply and working backwards through the set. Assume you can read a circuit diagram and have a DMM?
The generic name for your unit is a Radiogram.
It's good that the turntable still turns, albeit it's just 78 rpm only.

It would be best if you don't turn it on any more until the audio coupling capacitor at least has been changed, if it is leaking badly it could cause expensive damage.

Probably, yes. All the caps with values between 0.1uF and 0.001uF are suspect, but the grid coupling cap should be changed on sight because a bad one can do a lot of damage.

Many enthusiasts refer to it as 'that capacitor' because it is so notorious.
