Goblin Time Spot S25 radio
Hi everyone,
I am restoring a Goblin Time Spot clock radio. After recapping and a while on the lamp limiter and then at full mains it has crackled into life and I'm getting some MW on radio and the good audio through the pick-up connectors at the back. The clock was stuck in reverse and found to be due to a gummed up anti-reverse cam. After a clean its now running fine. Mike Phelan's service information was invaluable and can be found here https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ghlight=goblin The cabinet has cleaned up well and I'm reassembling but have a query about the positioning of the clock face. It appears that the clock face is set back compared to the tuner face. It appears that someone has reassembled it with the metal plate that holds the clock fitted backwards (with the lip where the screws go facing forward). This brings the clock face too far forward and out of line with the tuner face. However, if I turn it round to line up with the tuner the lamp is backwards and the screw hole in the metal plate do not line up with the cardboard printed clock face. This is a bit of a puzzle - surely its not meant to be out of line? There's no mention in the service data and I can't see enough in any internet photos. Anyone have any ideas of which way is correct? Photos in next post. |

Something very wrong here. The two thumbwheels need to be in line to protrude equally through the cabinet. Could be a collection of parts off more than one set.
Glad I didn't buy it now! |

Re: Goblin Time Spot S25 radio
This doesn't explain the misaligned controls but I think you're missing spacers between the clock dial face and the 'backing'. The spacers will move just the printed bit of the clock dial forward, have a look at the drawings in the ERT service sheet.

Re: Goblin Time Spot S25 radio
Like this (I hope this small section is OK mods). Hopefully someone has one they've taken lots of photos of during restoration, a photo saves a thousand words etc etc
So you've got the spacers between the front of the clock unit and the back plate, not between the back plate and dial face. Andrew

Re: Goblin Time Spot S25 radio
Well spotted Andrew - I was working from the other service sheet and so didn't spot the chassis diagram! Yes, I have the spacers in the wrong place. Here it is corrected:

Re: Goblin Time Spot S25 radio
Hi. I have one of these radios too, and have managed to get the radio side restored. The cord drive required rewinding. The coil on the clock side was o/c, but I do have one from a teasmade that I could possibly substitute. The speaker could do with replacement.
Nice to see someone else having some success with their Goblin radio. Mike |
