Re: BVWS Magazine
My postman used his initiative as well. The bulletin can be flattened out, the calendar is bent, and the DVD looked fine and flat. Unfortunately it seems to be faulty. The Electricity-Power for Good episode plays fine, but the other three don't get beyond a second or two before stopping and returning to the menu. What a nuisance. Is this a one-off? Or is it my DVD player?

Re: BVWS Magazine
Watched all the films on the DVD, brilliant, much better than a night of TV. I admire the searching for these gems done by the BVWS. When I first joined I got a whole load of them, does this happen to new joiners?

Re: BVWS Magazine
Got mine today, looks like a brilliant read. I've watched a couple of the films which are fantastic. Does anybody know when Handle with care and Electricity - power for good date from?

Re: BVWS Magazine
Mine arrived this morning, too, and looks excellent as usual.
I was also surprised and pleased to note that, of the fourteen sets featured in the superb 2017 calendar, I own examples of no less than five of them - February, March, July, November and December! Could this be a record?

Re: BVWS Magazine
I'd hate to spoil the surprise, Mike! Suffice it to say that the images are as good as ever.
Having just watched the DVD right the way through, it's excellent as well, especially the Electricity Board film. Absolute classic stuff. And I even have one of the KB sets that appears in the domestic kitchen scene...

Re: BVWS Magazine
I watched, and thoroughly enjoyed, the DVD last night before going to bed.
By the way, is "Triniteron" the official Sony pronunciation of "Trinitron"?

Mine arrived Monday, and was a very good read.
I hope to watch the DVD today. I have a large letterbox so folding not needed. Now need to send subs. The year seems to have gone very quickly. John |

Re: BVWS Magazine
Answer - don't know. Plays fine on a Goodmans player but not on a Sony or a laptop. Now to settle down and watch it.

Re: BVWS Magazine
It is interesting that it seems to work on some devices but not others. As in previous years, copies were sent to all committee members who tested them in a variety of devices before they went for production and no issues were found.
If your disk won't play correctly please try other devices if available, and hopefully something will work and let you enjoy it. It would be useful to let us know which devices and players don't work. I have just tried mine in my Panasonic Blu-ray player and on my desktop PC with VLC Media Player on Windows 10, and it is fine with both. I have notified Mike that a couple of people have reported problems here. |

Re: BVWS Magazine
It won't play on my Sony RDR-HXD870. Although it's the first time it's had a DVD problem, I could quite believe it's down to dodgy firmware that doesn't exactly comply with the standards. Its the same model that had severe issues when the Freeview programme guide had a major update some time ago. Other Freeview boxes coped with it seamlessly, but this one went into a sulk.
Having found something to play it properly, I can see that the dud player completely screws up the first few seconds of the introduction as well.

Re: BVWS Magazine
Hi All,
As Paul has said, we have all tried it in a variety of machines, but that is no guarantee that it will work with everything out there. If you have any issues with your DVD and it will not play in any machine you have at your disposal, we will send you a replacement, but I give no guarantees that it will play on your machines. However any replacements will be tested before sending out to be sure it is not actually an entirely duff disc. Just let me know by PM (do include your address) I am glad those who have watched it have enjoyed it. Mike...

Re: BVWS Magazine
There are marks on the playing surface of disks which won't play properly may be caused by the label printer.
perhaps someone can post a picture. Mine plays but only with difficulty. |

Re: BVWS Magazine
It may sound silly, but would it be a realistic alternative to make the individual films available for download from the BVWS website, maybe accessed via the members registered email address or membership no.? It would prejudice members on a slow internet connection I suppose, so you would still need the DVD option registered against the individual membership record. Or would the server load be too great? (I'm well out of my depth here)

Re: BVWS Magazine
I think Paul will have the correct answer but I think that will be a no.

Re: BVWS Magazine
That would involve putting the entire membership database online and synchronising it with the main database server regularly. It is do-able but it's a lot of work with significant security implications. There is no real need, and there are more important websites updates to get done.
Also of course video files are easy to distribute and share illegally. Although DVDs can be ripped it is more work and is a deliberate copyright breaching act. A further and important point is that many BVWS members do not have internet access so DVDs will be needed anyway. |

Well I have cover A22, Feb MB60, March 634A, April 90UB, July FB10 (but not in red), August Philips 462A, October RV14, November MBP183 (not in red mines snakeskin sort of a dirty cream) and December AC91. Not sure if I still have the Murphy 242 September as I have been trying to move most of my 50's stuff other than portables and Cossors to new homes. Note the EKCO is shown as a MBP149 but I am pretty certain its a MBP183 Cheers Mike T
