Grundig Satellit 2400 portable radio
Hi
I have a Grundig Satellit 2400 which I have stripped and cleaned. One problem I have is the tuning Cap/fins are stiff to turn on its spindle. This means the cables are slipping and I can't Tune via the dial. I can just turn the cap by hand. The fins look clean (new like even) Any ideas on how to free this up?? Thanks |

Lubricate the tuning cap bearings. Ideally you would dismantle the cap and repack all the bearings with light grease such as bicycle bearing grease, but if this seems like too much trouble you could try applying a drop of oil to each of the bearings. The type of oil isn't critical and you can use automotive engine oil, sewing machine oil or ordinary household oil such as 3-in-1.
Don't spray the bearings with WD40. Quite apart from going everywhere, WD40 is mostly white spirit which will evaporate in a few days, causing the bearings to tighten up again. |

Yes, but when anyone uses the term without qualification they are always referring to the original stuff which stops nuclear missiles going rusty - white spirit and mineral oil.

Re: Grundig Satellit 2400 portable radio
Thanks you so much for your help
I have oiled the spindle and bearings of the cap (sewing machine oil drops) and it is still not turning well...the cable system is tight but just slips around its shaft. Although the cap fins can be turned by hand (a little easier now) the cable/cord maybe too slippy to make friction. I'm hoping a new owner (on gumtree/bay) will be able to perform the task. Thanks again Quote:
