Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio
Two-pin DIN Speaker plugs should not have any kind of notch in either pin, but sometimes the pins pull partway out of the plastic body. They aren't unique to Blaupunkt car radios, but were used by a number of Continental Radios, and are available in various lengths to allow for where in the vehicle the speaker(s) is/are fitted.

Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio
Here's the connector...
Edit: Sorry for the crap quality, although I took care to take good clear photos and resize them to the advertised page size limits. For some reason the site seems to take it upon itself to resize the already correctly-sized JPGs, reducing their dimensions by 1 pixel in each axis... maybe that is why they now look fuzzy and indistinct. Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio
That's not a 2-pin DIN it's an old style low voltage connector that looks like it's been bitten by a car battery!

Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio
I stand corrected! Blaupunkt used to use those two-pin speaker plugs before they changed to DIN ones. If you know of a German site which still stocks them, could you let me have their details, please. 4mm plugs will fit those sockets, so two seperate plugs, one on each lead, will fit if need be.

Follow-up to my `970's Ford radio recovery ('Blaupunkt Hamburg')
Hello,
Back in December 2016 I posted here about a Ford-badged car radio that folks here helped to identify as a Blaupunkt Hamburg. I promised to follow up but the original thread is closed, so I am posting results here. Basically, I'm almost done and am in the final stages of reassembly. The radio works fine and I've cleaned it up as best as I can. I'll be back soon with some pictures. Cheers! Last edited by AC/HL; 28th May 2017 at 2:45 am. Reason: Threads merged |

I'll be honest, I cannot for the life of me remember where that blue piece of plastic was supposed to go. It doesn't seem to happily fit anywhere perfectly. Anyone any ideas? I had a guess but I don't know if I am right! Last edited by swulf70; 28th May 2017 at 3:30 am. |

Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio (Blaupunkt Hamburg)
I have a distant memory from my 1973 Cortina that the radio tuning scale used to have blue illumination. Does that blue plastic fit over the dial lamps somehow?

Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio (Blaupunkt Hamburg)
Hi Martin,
Yes, it does somehow. There's a single filament lamp in the centre behind the tuning dial so it must shine through that somehow. And there's a little hole that has a bit of red insulating tape across it(!) - even in the original - to make a 'red indicator' of some sort. I suppose it was to look cool! I took the blue plastic out when I disassembled it for repair but although I took photos I didn't seem to catch the crucial location... |

Re: Trying to identify early 70's UK Ford car radio (Blaupunkt Hamburg)
I'm not sure about the upper part in pictures 3 & 4, either, but the othe parts just clip into place. Be sure to set the pointer to the LH end when refitting the scale back plate (the lower part in #3 & #4). the hole at the RH end of this fits over the trimmer shaft, and the pointer is easily broken if it catches on the plate as it is inserted.
