Hi See_Mos

The U7 chassis was actually manufactured by Murphy Radio Ltd. I have several in my collection and all have a painted chassis like yours in the picture. Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Peter

Good idea Neil, unfortunately I can only add another 'unknown' unless someone has the same with a U number?

Hi John,

Again looking at my collection and through my information I have, yours looks like a U4 Gramaphone Company ltd (HMV)

They had paper U labels and Serial numbers which often have been lost or destroyed over time.

Another clue to the manufacturer is the shape of the IF cans and again yours also is the same as the U4.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Peter

Excellent thanks Peter, I thought the IF cans were distinctive, if you have a photo with the label you can add that would help for future identification too.

Here are a couple of pictures of the dials from two band Wartime Civilian radios that I have worked on. I believe that both sets were converted to LW after manufacture, the GEC (U6) one having used the Bush conversion kit if the slug tuned coils and associated fixing brackets are anything to go by.

Both dials have the MW station names on the outer radius, with LW on the inner radius. The GEC/Bush one is dark brown and the unknown (possibly Ekco) set being the simpler yellow one, with the colour matching the rotor on the tuning cap. Other Forum members have recorded that the two band dials are black.
