Default From Metal to Glass.

This new topic relates to the replacement of the CRT in the Bush TUG26.

An article in the October 1959 Practical Television magazine about replacing the metal cone CRT with an all glass 17" tube.

Even by 1959 the metal cone 16" MW41-1 was considered an obsolete CRT.
The article on page 23 describes the replacement of the MW41-1 with an MW43-69 all glass 17" rectangular tube in Ferguson models 989T and 990T.
Reading though the notes about replacing the original tube with the MW43-69 I would say this not a satisfactory conversion. From page 30: as the 17" tube bulb is considerably longer than the 16" type two measures must be taken:
the scan coils securing bolts are loosened and the coils pushed back as far as they will go. The Perspex mask must be removed from the inside of the cabinet and mounted on the outside using chrome headed screws
.

Reading these notes it can be seen that it is most likely a similar tube substitution in the Bush TUG26 will not be a satisfactory modification. Much better to find a good replacement 16" CRT or if all fails use a 14" rectangular CRT.
