Anyone got any info on WW1 sets using the R2 and R4 valves?
Hi all
A friend in Oz asked me if I know anyone into old British military sets - I don't these days. He is looking for information on any military WW1 equipment using the R2 or R4 valves (NR2 or NR4 in Navy terms, not sure if the Army had an equivalent). So I am asking here in case anyone knows. The only stuff I have to hand is the Warrior volumes but they are far too recent for this. Might anyone here in VMARS ask there please? Thanks Jeremy |

Jeremy,
Are you including WFTW Compendium 1 in your comment? That covers "Spark to Larkspur, 1910 to 1948". HNY, Roger |

Roger,
Thanks - I only have volumes 1 to 4 of the original set, I'd not checked this out for ages and missed the fact he published the compendium volumes! Jeremy |

Volume 2 of Rupert Stanley's book "Wireless Telegraphy" (new edition, 1919) discusses and illustrates WW1 radio technology. I only have Volume 1, which only deals with the theory and fundamentals of Wireless, and refers you to Vol 2 for details of the contemporary hardware.
A free copy of Vol 1 of the 1919 edition is available on line here : https://archive.org/stream/textbooko...e/n13/mode/2up and a copy of Vol 2 is here: https://archive.org/stream/textbooko.../n366/mode/2up Editions prior to 1919 seem to be single volume reprints of the 1914 edition. I found that continuous tone images did not reproduce when viewed on line, but they are all there in the downloaded PDF version. Last edited by emeritus; 29th Dec 2016 at 2:36 am. |

Visit the Collingwood Historic Collection website (Royal Navy radio and radar equipment), the section on receivers has information on WW1 sets, including Receiver Model MB which uses R4 valves.
