Forum software update, 8pm this evening
I will be updating the forum software to vBulletin version 3.8.11 at around 8pm this evening. It is likely to take about 10 minutes (during which time the forum will be closed) unless there are any issues. I will post here again a few minutes before the update starts.
Main change in v3.8.11 is support for PHP 5.6, 7.0 and 7.1, so it should be able to run on supported PHP versions for some time (7.1 is supported until December 2019) even if there are no further updates to the vBulletin v3.8.x series. There are no functional changes in this update so everything should continue to work as before. |

Good to know. Thanks. Will this update change the look of the website?

No, it's only an update from v3.8.10 to v3.8.11, I don't expect any appearance or functional changes. It's primarily a PHP compatibility and bug-fix update.

Re: Forum software update, 8pm this evening
Now complete. Hopefully everything will work as before but if you notice any problems that didn't exist before please post here.
For those interested in the techie aspects, the hosting account is now set to PHP 7.0 (was previously set to PHP 5.5). |

Re: Forum software update, 8pm this evening
*Groan* That reminds me. I have a mountain of mission-critical custom scripts built using the obsolete mysql_* functions that are going to need migrating to PDO (I tried mysqli_* -- that was a total dog's breakfast. PDO works very much like DBI in Perl, which I was already used to) sooner rather than later.
But that's enough Work Talk! I haven't noticed any problems so far, anyway.

Re: Forum software update, 8pm this evening
As no problems have been reported after 24 hours I'll close this now. If you find any problems now, please just create a new thread in this section, unless there is already an existing open thread about it.
