Default Murphy U198m

Hi
I have a Murphy U198m all looks good but 2 of the lugs on the mains dropper resistor have snapped off.

Part no 63574

R21 944 ohm
R22 168 ohm 5% 25w
R23 160 ohm

can anyone help with a replacement or alternative fix.

Thanks

Bart.

What exactly do you mean when you say the lugs have snapped off?

Your main options are:

1. Mend the existing dropper
2. Replace it with another dropper from a scrap set
3. Modify the radio to use a capacitor dropper
4. Modify it to use a diode dropper

The dropper is a standard value and many members will have one in the junk box. For basic info on a cap/diode conversion see this old article by Paul Stenning: http://www.vintage-radio.com/repair-...per-calcs.html

The Tabs/ lugs the wires connect to have snapped with only a small piece of lug remaining not enough to attach wire to.
Thanks for your help.

Wrap a small hose clip around the dropper at the tag position to get a contact.

Yes, you should be able to replace it with a Jubilee clip. I think Poundland sell them.

These radios work well once sorted out, though my U598 (U198 in a fur coat) has a bit of modulation hum.

Lots of useful stuff here, though some of it is a bit dated and you may find it daunting at first.
